Cyber Monday 2026: How to Make a Shopping List You'll Actually Stick To

Buy the list, not the hype - woman on a mountain of delivery boxes under an aurora

A good Cyber Monday is one where you buy only what was already on your list, at a better price. Everything else is marketing. In 2026, Cyber Monday falls on 30 November, the Monday after Black Friday (27 November).

The sales are designed to make "maybe" feel like "now": countdown timers, "only 3 left", free shipping thresholds. A list written calmly, weeks before, is the antidote.

Step 1: Write the list now, not on the day

Make it while you're calm. Include only:

  • Christmas gifts already on your gift list
  • Things you need and would buy anyway in the next three months
  • One planned "treat" for yourself, if it fits

If it isn't on the list by the weekend before, it doesn't get bought on Monday.

Step 2: Set a total cap

Write one number: the most you'll spend across all Cyber Monday purchases. It comes out of your holiday number, not on top of it.

Step 3: Check the "normal" price

For each item, note today's price. Then on the day you'll know whether a "deal" is real or just a familiar price in red.

Step 4: Reduce the noise

  • Unsubscribe from sale emails you don't need.
  • Turn off shop app notifications for the weekend.
  • Don't browse "just to see". Go straight to your list.

Step 5: Use a pause for anything not on the list

See something new you love? Add it to a wishlist with the date. If you still want it in 30 days and it fits your budget, buy it then, often at the same price. Our 30-day rule article explains why this works.

Step 6: Track what you spent

Write each purchase down that evening. It closes the loop and stops the weekend quietly turning into a week of "extended deals".
